About Theatre On the Scene

Theatre On the Scene is an Icelandic theatre company, with its home base in Reykjavík. The group was formed in 1998 by actor/writer Felix Bergsson and director Kolbrun Halldorsdottir. The first production, The Perfect Equal, opened in Reykjavík in January 1999 and has since been performed in London, Malmo (Sweden), Tromsö (Norway) and Torshavn (The Faroe Islands) with support from the EU´s Kaleidescope program.

Theatre On the Scene won four awards at the Icelandic Theatre Awards 2003, including Production of the Year, for their 2002 production of Kvetch by Steven Berkoff.

The aim of the Theatre On the Scene is to make new and challenging work that has a strong social impact. The dream is to put political discussion back into international theatre. The group has from the beginning put emphasis on new techniques in theatre, new Icelandic work and it is open to collaboration with artists from all over the world. The group is an active member of The Association of Independent Theatres in Iceland and IETM, Informal European Theatre Meeting. The group has collaborated with theatre companies in Europe and it enjoys support by the The Icelandic Ministry of Art and Education, The City of Reykjavík and local businesses in Iceland. The group recently signed a three year contract with the City of Reykjavik, securing financial support until the year 2006.
