-The Perfect Equal by Felix Bergsson

A one performer, multi-media production, The Perfect Equal tells the stories of 5 gay men in Reykjavík. Their stories are told with humour and compassion, unveiling their lives and their fate. It is a poetic producton, drawing our inspiration from theatre-artists such a Robert LePage and the poetry of Walt Whitman. The Perfect Equal got a very strong reaction when it opened in Reykjavík in January 1999 and it was an instant success, both in Reykjavík and in London, where it played at The Drill Hall. The play was a source for a great deal of discussion in Iceland about the matters of gay Icelanders.

What the critics said:
“...an important production…. In spite of conventional methods there is a strong will to brake out of the artform”
“I wish that more theatre artists would show the courage that Felix Bergsson shows by The Perfect Equal”
“....a tight and fast moving piece of theatre....”
“....the collaboration of film, lights and sounds was brilliant…”
“Kolbrun and Felix have made an immaculate production…”
“The script is sharp and dripping with knowing jokes about Ikea and internet chat-rooms; the direction is slick and innovative. Felix sings, dances, drags up and plays all five characters with equal relish, shocking, saddening and entertaining by turns..”
